Michael Barbara has a lead role in originating deal opportunities and managing the investment of capital for New Forests’ funds in the Australia-New Zealand region. In this role Michael is responsible for evaluating opportunities, managing the due diligence process, transaction structuring, raising co-investment, reporting to the Investment Committee and deal negotiation, execution and implementation. He has led or contributed to the investment of New Forests’ timberland funds in Australia and New Zealand, totalling more than AUD 2 billion. Michael also holds formal roles contributing to the strategic management and governance of investments in Australia and the United States.
Since joining New Forests at its inception in 2005, Michael has worked for the company’s US and Australian businesses in roles spanning investment analysis, asset management, and development of commercialisation strategies for environmental markets assets, such as carbon and biodiversity. Michael has an MBA from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management and a Bachelor in Environmental Management from Macquarie University. Michael is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
