Our hardwood chip comes from Australia’s largest freehold plantation estates, where we use advanced silvicultural regimes and responsible forestry practices to produce consistent, superior quality products.

New Forests Timber Products is a member of the New Forests Group and operates across the Asia-Pacific region with primary exports from the Australian ports of Burnie, Launceston, and Hobart in Tasmania, Portland in Victoria, and Albany in Western Australia, as well as ports in Southeast Asia and New Zealand.

Through close alignment with New Forests’ plantation resources, New Forests Timber Products is the focal point for the wood fibre distribution of assets under management to the commercial market.

New Forests was established in Australia in 2005 to manage investments in sustainable forestry. Currently the company has more than AUD 5 billion in assets under management, including more than 950,000 hectares of forests and land in Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and the United States. New Forests Timber Products was established in 2015 as the timber marketing division of New Forests to capitalise on the growth and quality of the forest resources under the group’s investment management.

Our Products

Our timber products come from certified forestry estates in Australasia – specialising in high-quality, hardwood chip and log from Australia’s finest eucalyptus plantations. New Forests Timber Products also provides timber sales services in support of New Forests’ other plantation investments, with plantation softwoods in New Zealand and plantation hardwoods in Southeast Asia.

Eucalyptus nitens

Commonly known as Shining Gum, Eucalyptus nitens is native to Tasmania where it is the preferred hardwood plantation species for its high suitability to the local climate and its attractive pulping characteristics.

Quality and Assurance

Our focus is on plantation hardwood chip and log serving major pulp and paper and veneer markets across Asia. We have the capacity to meet major woodchip and log specifications and can use the Forico Fibre Technology laboratory (a NATA certified laboratory) for quality control and transparency in the characteristics of every shipment. Our high-quality hardwood and softwood species have a wide range of applications and are the preferred species for production of pulp and paper, dissolving pulp, fluff pulp, and wood pellets for a range of end-market uses.

Our Plantation Resources

New Forests Timber Products brings to the commercial market woodchip and logs from certified plantation forests owned by New Forests’ investment funds. These premier forestry estates include two of Australia’s most iconic, large-scale hardwood assets, Forico and the Forestry Investment Trust. New Forests Timber Products also works closely with the forest managers who operate and manage these and other New Forests plantations on a day-to-day basis across both Australia and New Zealand.

  • Forestry Investment Trust (FIT) – The FIT estate includes more than 110,000 hectares of certified Eucalyptus globulus plantations. The estate is concentrated in Great Southern regions of Western Australia and the productive Green Triangle region of Victoria and South Australia. FIT operational forestry management and export is managed by PF Olsen Australia.
  • Forico – Forico Pty Limited manages around 100,000 hectares of certified plantation estate in Tasmania known as the Forico estate. The species are Eucalyptus nitens, Eucalyptus globulus and Pinus radiata. Currently, Forico is licensed to process up to 2.6 million green metric tonnes per annum for export. Forico exports through the Ports of Burnie, Launceston and Hobart in Tasmania.

New Forests Pty Ltd was incorporated in Australia in 2005 and is the parent company of the New Forests group. New Forests manages more than AUD 2.75 billion in institutional foresty investments in Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and the US. This includes more than 600,000 hectares of plantation forests, land, and conservation investments.

Forico is Tasmania’s largest plantation forest manager, operating an integrated supply chain from seed to ships. Forico was established in 2014 as a portfolio company of the New Forests Australia New Zealand Forest Fund 2.

Timberlink launched in 2013 as a portfolio company of the New Forests Australia New Zealand Forest Fund and operates three softwood sawmills, with two in Australia and one in New Zealand.
